The Great Halifax Explosion: An Anniversary Presentation
On December 6, 1917, during the height of WWI, two ships trying to navigate Halifax Harbor collided resulting in the largest man-made explosion of the pre-atomic age. Essex Heritage President, David Read, will recount the events leading up to this devastating tragedy and the impressive Massachusetts rescue effort. Relive the personal stories and riveting details of the weeks that followed – and learn about the most important train to ever travel through Essex County. Join us for a special presentation on about this historic day and learn why the citizens of Nova Scotia still send a special gift of appreciation each year! This 1.5-hour lecture will be followed by a brief Q&A.
