Living Green & Renewable Energy Fair

The 5th Annual Living Green & Renewable Energy Fair, organized by the Salem Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with the Salem Renewable Energy Taskforce, will take place on Saturday, May 19 from 10 am - 3 pm at Old Town Hall, 32 Derby Square, Salem, MA.

The Living Green & Renewable Energy Fair will bring together green industry professionals and consumers from the Greater Boston & North Shore regions to discuss products, services and information that encourage healthier, more sustainable consumption and lifestyles for businesses and families. 

We will be announcing more events shortly so please check back regularly for more information! Browse over 40 vendor booths and exhibitors and learn about green products, services and information to help you lead a healthier, more sustainable lifestyle.  There will be lots of free take-aways, items for sale and prizes! There will be something for the whole family, so bring the kids!
  
Free Screening of “Deep Green Movie
Location: Cinema Salem, Museum Place Mall
10 am (Length 50 mins)
There’s a growing buzz surrounding a new documentary called Deep Green—a film that takes a positive approach: instead of leaving us scared senseless concerning the condition of our environment, it provides a wealth of solutions that clearly illustrate, in the words of the film promotion, “We can fix this.” Based On Six Years Of Intensive Research And Devoted Exclusively To Solutions To Man-Made Global Warming, “Deep Green” Cuts Through The Clutter To Bring New Clarity To An Increasingly-Urgent Situation.

Salem Beautification Committee Plant Sale Fundraiser
Location: 32 Derby Square (Outside Old Town Hall)
Time: 9 am – 2 pm
Choose from a wide assortment of home-grown perennials, a variety of annuals, and a selection of hanging baskets. Rain barrels, composters, water conservation garden spray nozzles and recycling bins will also be available for purchase. The goal of the Beautification Committee is to create civic pride and to motivate the City’s diverse population to participate in the beautification process.  The Committee will identify areas in need of improvement, will create programs, recruit volunteers and will secure the funding resources to achieve its goals.

Electronic Waste Recycling Event
Location: 32 Derby Square (Outside Old Town Hall)
Time: 10 am – 2 pm 
Responsibly recycle your used electronics at the Living Green & Renewable Energy Fair.  We will be collecting e-waste - old computers, televisions, fax machines, cell phones, printers, stereo equipment, etc.- and then charge an ethical recycling fee of $1/pound that helps to cover the cost of transporting and recycling that e-waste in accordance with the highest international standards. Grease Car on Display

Location: 32 Derby Square (Outside Old Town Hall)
Time: 10 am – 3 pm
Used vegetable oil is an alternative fuel for diesel engines and for heating oil burners. Fossil fuel pump rices are over $4 per gallon in some areas and approaching $5 per gallon.  Stop by the Living Green Fair to see a converted grease car.  Owner Steve Majeski will be on hand to answer all of your grease car questions.

Salem State University has constructed a new residence hall designed to achieve status as a green building with LEED certification of Silver or higher. Marsh Hall includes a 325-seat dining facility as well as a large and a small meeting space, all of which will be open for use by the entire campus. The hall houses 525 students, which moves Salem State toward its goal of housing 50 percent of its students on campus.  This will lead to fewer commuting students, reducing the college’s carbon footprint and reducing congestion on streets and roads.
