Capoeira combines martial arts, dance, acrobatics, and music into a dynamic and unique Afro-Brazilian art form. All are welcome at this workshop, including observers. Guthemberg Teixeira was born in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil, and grew up immersed in the traditions of Capoeira under the guidance of his father, Gutemberg Souza (Grão Mestre Chuvisco). Guthemberg began assisting his father in Capoeira classes at the age of 12, translating between English and Portuguese for students. By the age of 15, he taught his first Capoeira class under his father’s supervision, marking the beginning of his teaching journey. He has taught at his own locations — Lynn (Lynn Arts Inc.), Somerville (Deborah Mason Performing Arts Center), and South Boston (South Boston Yoga). Guthemberg has since become a dedicated Capoeira instructor and performer, sharing his passion and expertise across various platforms. He has performed at numerous venues and taught masterclasses at prestigious institutions such as UMass Boston and MIT. Additionally, he has contributed to university Capoeira clubs at Harvard and Boston University, spreading the art of Capoeira to diverse audiences and nurturing a new generation of practitioners.
